Ocean Plastics Congress 2019 (OPC 2019) aims to lead by example, conducting the event in the most environmentally responsible manner possible.
Already the Convention Centre uses green energy, collects rain water and disposes of organic matter through a worm farm. The event will be planned to reduce the use of plastics, plastic to reduce the use of single use plastics and reduce waste and recycle wherever possible.
OPC2019 will go into partnership with Greenfleet, one of Australia’s most reputable carbon offset organisations. Each registration will be matched to a tree planted in Greenfleet’s hardwood forest.
Greenfleet forests are biodiverse ecosystems which are protected for up to 100 years, providing habitat for Koalas, Brush-Tailed Phascogales, and endangered Loggerhead Turtles, amongst other native species. Unlike other carbon offset providers, their focus is on biodiverse ecosystem restoration, and they do not plant monocultures or plantations.
